Maren Wickwire founder of MANIFEST MEDIA | Visual Anthropologist | Filmmaker

Originally from Germany, Maren’s award winning multimedia works and films have been screened globally. She explores social and cultural phenomenon in multilayered visual works based on long-term field work and practice led research informed by her studies in visual anthropology.

Founder of Manifest Media, a nomadic film and design studio producing documentaries, web based educational videos and multimedia installations raising awareness for human rights issues, Maren has been collaborating with international recognized organizations including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, the US Institute of Peace, Art Works Projects and Eastern Congo Initiative. Maren’s work for the past years has been focused on counter-narratives to mainstream depictions when it comes to working with vulnerable and marginalized people groups. Her work focuses on migration studies, mobility and transnationalism, post-conflict and peacebuilding efforts with a particular interest in the everyday experiences of women and communities. She is a current graduate candidate of the Visual Media Anthropology program of the Freie University in Berlin.

“In Between” (working title) | November 2016 – present 

This film aims to understand precarity and self-determination among Filipina migrant workers in Cyprus and how individuals as well as the larger migrant community strategizes around state imposed restrictions, deportations as well as coping with difficulties such as private disputes, personal hardship and ruptures within the group.
